Shillong ( Meghalaya), Sept 1 : On Thursday , acting on a tip-off, troops from the 193 Battalion of BSF Meghalaya, in a joint operation with the Meghalaya police, intercepted a civil bus and seized a large quantity of clothing items and sugar worth Rupees 9 lakhs from the Barmanbari border area of East Khasi Hills District, which were intended for smuggling into Bangladesh.
The driver and co-driver of the civil bus were apprehended because neither they justified the presence of clothing items and sugar in the bus, nor they produced any valid documents regarding the consignment.
The apprehended persons revealed that they were coming from Shillong and consignment was being taken to bordering village Sonatala.
The arrested duo and the seized items were handed over to PS- Danger for further legal action.
