Kokrajhar(Assam), July 13: The district administrations in Lower Assam have sounded red alert after neighboring Bhutan announced its plan to release the excess water tonight around 12 midnight from 00:00 hrs of 14 July 2023 from the Kurichu Hydropower Plant reservoir in Kurichu River in Bhutan.
Since the released water from the Kurichu dam would flow to neighboring downstream Baksa and Barpeta districts of Assam, the district administrations in the areas have been alerted the people and have initiated necessary measures to tackle any kind of emergency.
The SDRF, NDRF as well as the fire brigade have been put on alert across the areas and prepared strategies to check the flood waters.
The Baksa district administration has sounded a red alert for people residing on the banks of the Beki and Pahumara rivers as well it’s adjoining neighboring areas and appealing to the residents to move to higher and safer locations in their respective areas.
The flood situation in Lower Assam region is likely to be worsen with the release of excessive waters from the Kurichu Hydropower plant reservoir.
Meanwhile,chief executive member of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), Pramod Boro has visited at various relief camps being set up different places at Bijni subdivision of Chirang district today.
Notably, several relief camps have been set up for the flood affected people in Chirang district as river waters from the northern part have been seen rising since early morning in the areas.
District administration officials and rescue team from district disaster management authority of Chirang are monitoring about the flood situation.
CEM Boro and senior officials of the BTR government rushed to the flood affected areas under Bijni subdivision and met relief camp inmates to take stock about the about the fury of the floods which have hit Bodoland Territorial Region.
Boro has assured for ensure & safety steps said that the BTR government is taking necessary measures to tackle the flood situation. He has asked the concern departmental senior officials to keep up the relief & rehabilitation operations on a war footing way to render services and helping hand towards flood affected people.
” Today, I met with flood affected people those are mothers & sisters of BTR & heard what they had to narrate about the fury of the floods that have hit BTR. Assured them that our Govt will do everything to ensure their safety & that of their loved ones. Also instructed senior officials keep up the relief & rehabilitation operations on a war footing”, Boro added.
The UPPL general secretary (Administration),Raju Kumar Narzary and several senior party leaders have also visited at various flood affected areas and took stock about the flood situation in Chirang district.
The UPPL party leaders are taking stock of the flood situation and are rendering all help towards the flood affected people.
