Shillong ( Meghalaya ), Nov 23 : The Socio religious organization for protection and preservation of indigenous faith and culture of the Hynniewtrep community, “Ka Seng Khasi Seng Kmie” today observed its annual gathering called “Seng Kut Snem” at Weiking ground in Shillong.
Unlike in the previous years, the annual indigenous gathering was observed with moderate pomp and gaiety due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Nov 23 is observed every year to commemorate the formation of Seng Khasi by 16 nationalist Khasi youths to protect their indigenous religion, rich culture and unique language and today’s observance of Seng Kut Snem marks its 122nd anniversary.
The gathering began with paying obeisance to God, the Creator for all the benediction that he has shown on the community with good health and general prosperity. Invocation was also made to God- the omnipotent to continue showering his blessings on the community.
Meanwhile ,the annual thanksgiving Kopati Puja of Raij Raliang in West Jaiñtia Hills District which commenced at Raij Raliang on Monday and will conclude on Wednesday midnight. The rites and rituals of this pooja are being participated by the five priests of Elaka Raliang.
The Dolloi of Raliang Elaka, C.Lyngdoh said the Kopti Pooja has been passed from one generation to the next by their forefathers. The rites and rituals known as Than Blai were performed at the house of the priest and the decapitation of goats known as Knia Pomblang was held in the sacred forest Khlow Blei followed by the traditional dance. Rites and rituals were marked by the releasing of doves.
CM, Conrad Sangma extended his greetings and best wishes to the citizens of the state on the annual Seng Kut Snem and appreciated the Seng Khasi Movement and the efforts of the Seng Khasi to preserve, protect and uphold indigenous Khasi faith and culture.
