Shillong ( Meghalaya ), May 5 : In view of the worsening Covid situation, the Govt. has decided to impose Complete Lockdown in East Khasi Hills from 8 PM today till 5 AM of 10th May 2021.
Weekend lockdown will also be imposed in all districts in the State.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the exams scheduled to be held on 6th & 7th of May has been postponed to 11th & 12th May 2021 and the education department will issue the necessary notifications .
Sangma said that with the number of active cases crossing the 2000 mark and a positivity rate of 17% in Shillong and 12% in East Khasi Hills and hospital occupancy reaching 60% in Shillong, immediate measures must be enacted to contain the spread.
Though the containment measures have considerably brought down crowding and gathering of people in markets, the rising number of cases call for stricter measures that need to be put in place.
Vehicular movement will be restricted and Inter State movement will also be restricted. Further, movement from and to East Khasi Hills will be restricted.
All major markets in East Khasi Hills will be closed and essential goods will be available in locality shops. Home delivery services will be permitted.
Movement of agriculture produce in EKH will be regulated by the DC of EKH.
Weddings that have been permitted may be held with 20 people and Funerals will restricted to 20 people with permission from the Deputy Commissioner.
During the lockdown, health services will be exempted and the Vaccination drive will continue.
Essential services and movement of essential goods will also be exempted.
Details of permitted activities will be issued by the Deputy Commissioner.
The Chief Minister requested all citizens to cooperate with the Government and take the vaccines and stay indoors during the lockdown period.
Meanwhile, the state recorded 268 positive cases today taking the active cases in the state to 2,135 .
The state as of today also has 41 critical Covid -19 patients with severe symptoms and on ventilator support while 100 are on oxygen support .
