Guwahati (Assam), Nov 25 : Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday reached Guwahati to pay his last respect to former Assam chief minister Late Tarun Gogoi.
Rahul Gandhi reached Guwahati Airport, early in the morning and went to Sankardev Kalakshetra to pay his last respect to Tarun Gogoi.
Speaking to reporters, Rahul Gandhi said that Late Tarun Gogoi was just not a leader of Assam but the entire country .
Stating Late Gogoi was his’ mentor’ he said he learnt everything about politics from him .
Later he went to Late Gogoi’s official residence to meet his wife Ms. Dolly Gogoi .
Today , Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma also paid his floral tributes to Late Tarun Gogoi at Sankardev Kalashetra where his his mortal remains have been kept for people to pay their last respects .
Terming him as ‘Assam’s son and tallest political stalwart’ of the North East, he said that Tarun Gogoi is a father figure to many and his demise is a great loss to the entire North East.
He also conveyed his condolences to his son and MP Gaurav Gogoi and his family.
The leader of the opposition in Meghalaya and former Chief Minister , Dr. Mukul Sangma also paid his last respects to Late Gogoi today .
