Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Feb 21: Former president of All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) Pramod Boro formally joined the United People’s Party Liberal( UPPL) at a special convention held at Bijni in Chirang district of Friday evening.
Notably,Boro was one of signatories of third Bodo accord that signed on Jan 27 last which led to the creation of Bodoland Territorial Region after tripartite peace talks.
Boro was relieved from the ABSU presidentship on Feb 12 at a session held at Tamulpur in Baksa district.
Boro served 11 year as president of ABSU since 2009 to 2020 besides holding several key positions in the students union.
In a significant development Boro joined the UPPL party along with his several members and followers in the party.
Nearly 100 persons including ex MLA Nathuram Boro,ex BTC MCLA Jyotindra Nath Brahma,Pabitra Boro,ex AAGSU leader Dimbeswar Upadhyaya,founder Bengali Youth Students Federation leader Sahadev Das,former ABSU leaders Nilut Swargiyary,Nerkhang Khaklary,former ABMSU secretary Nazrul Islam were prominent members who joined the UPPL party on Friday evening .
He would be contesting in the upcoming BTC elections representing UPPL party .
UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma,general secretary Maoti Brahma Hazoary and several party leaders welcomed him and offered felicitations to Boro and the other members who joined the party.
Boro said that the recently signed BTR accord would pave way for health integration in the region.
He emphasized to build a strong social upliftment amongst the society in the region and voice for corruption free society in near future.
“We must build healthy environment amongst the society”, Boro added.
Former general secretary of All BTC Minority Students Union(ABMSU) Nazrul Islam also joined UPPL party.
Islam along with his five of his associates which included adviser of ABMSU Majibur Rahman also joined the party.
He alleged that BPF ruled BTC administration has failed to fulfill hopes and aspirations of the people from the region.
UPPL president Urkhao Gwra Brahma welcomed the newly joined members and claimed that this time around UPPL would be winning in majority seats to rule the BTC administration.
He said that people from the BTC region are want ‘parivartan’ as BPF rule administration couldn’t meet the expectations of the society.He said that UPPL was getting good response from the citizens and that is why it is gaining mass support in the region.
