Shillong(Meghalaya), Feb 15: Eighteen women were ostracized by a village Dorbar in West Jaiñtia Hills.
Late reports said that the women were ostracized by the Dorbar Shnong Niriang under Thadlaskeiñ Block on December 7, 2019.
The letter of the Dorbar Niriang including a letter signed by the Secretary of the Dorbar Shnong to one of the women available with Highland Post did not specify the reasons for ostracism.
However, ostracism was evident from the fact that the Dorbar through the letter said that these women will not have access to firewood and rice meant for distribution during death in a family and are not allowed to cultivate in the village land.
These women are also barred from taking part in any social activities in the village.
These women included Ngait War, Shisha Kharmylliem, Jemi Suting, Pyndap Suting, Meri Mukhim, Sniawbha Mukhim, Aidis Nongrum, Wian Nongrum, Kwein Kharkongor, Widaia Kharkongor, Beta Kharkongor, Roibha Mukhim, Niwai Mukhi, Salemly, Philishia Mukhim, Boi Mukhim, Bih Kharkongor and Tralin Nongrum.
However, no complaint was lodged yet even as some residents of the village claimed that the women were ostracized for not exercising their franchise.
