Kokrajhar (Assam), Aug 19: Organisation leaders from Bodo community including Bodo Sahitya Sabha,All Bodo Students Union offered floral tributes to Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha on his 21st death anniversary observed at Chandamari here on Thursday .
Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma was the former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha and former deputy general manager of Food Corporation of India (FCI) for northeastern region, who was shot death by armed miscreants on August 19 ,2000 at his Bhetapara residence in Guwahati.
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Taren Boro hoisted sabha flag half mast on the occasion .
Bodoland Territorial Areas (BTC) chief executive member Pramod Boro, Assam cabinet minister UG Brahma, Kokrajhar East LAC MLA Lawrence Islary,ABSU general secretary Khanindra Basumatary, BTC executive members Dr Nilut Swargiary, Daobaisa Boro, noted educationist Surath Narzary attended the ceremony to pay tributes to late Brahma.
A lecture on the contribution of Bineswar Brahma towards the upiftment and development of Bodo community was also organised to mark the occasion.
Minister Brahma while recalling contributions of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma, who dedicated his life for the welfare of Bodo literature , language and culture said that late Brahma was dedicated for the cause of the Bodoa . He also condemned the assassination of Brahma, who had contributed a lot from his heart for the Bodo society. He always desired a peaceful society in the region.
He said Bodo community should unite and build a healthy society so that community can have healthy development.
Brahma termed that late Brahma as a harbinger of peace among the Bodos people and devoted his life towards upliftment of the common masses.
He said that Brahma was against extremist activities in the state and across the north eastern region and was very vocal against militancy and had always urged the government for solutions through political dialogue. He said that Bodo sahitya sabha was and still is working for the welfare and upliftment of Bodo language .
Bodo Sahitya Sabha president Taren Boro recalled contributions of Bineswar Brahma towards welfare and development of the Bodo community through his bold leadership .He always thought for peace and harmony amongst the communities in state.
“We must keep alive his ideology and philosophy’’, Boro said.
BTC CEM Boro said that the contribution of Subungthini Thandwi Bineswar Brahma was endless and his ideology and philosophy must be kept alive among the future generations.
Boro while paying homage to late Brahma termed that Bineswar Brahma was the harbinger of peace in the region. He said late Brahma was an extraordinary leader of the sabha as well of Bodo community. Despite holding a high official responsibility in FCI, Brahma dedicated his life for Bodos’ development and language upliftment .
He said that late Brahma’s contribution and dedication was endless who had stressed to bring healthy and integrated society in the state. He said with Brahma’s death the Bodo lost a great thinker and an ideologue .
