Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Feb 3: Police here have recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition and arrested six persons in Kokrajhar district late last evening .
Speaking to reporters today ,SP Rakesh Roushan said that the huge amount of arms and ammunition were recovered at Nasraibil under Gossaigaon subdivision in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday evening after a search operation.
He said that on the basis of specific inputs that some miscreants along with some arms/ammo/explosive were moving in a Scorpio vehicle at Nasraibil area under Saraibil BOP of Gossaigaon PS, police stopped the vehicle bearing registration no. Scorpio AS 16 A 4165 and recovered the cache .
The recoveries included five AK 56 riffle, eight numbers of AK 56 magazine, one HK 33E, one HK 33E magazine, one UBGL, 11 nos UBGL Cell eight Chinese Hand Grenades , 300 rounds of AK 56 ammunition along with, BP pouches, mobile phone 3, etc.
Police apprehended six persons for carrying illegal arms and ammunition.They have been identified as Sumanjay Basumatary@Bogla(35),Rabinath Narzary(25),Pungkha Basumatary,Mwktang Basumatary,Manipal Mushahary(34) all are of Kokrajhar district and Swmkhwr Basumatary(26) from Sonitpur district.
The arrested persons were produced to court in Kokrajhar and later brought under police remand.
SP Roushan told that a thorough investigation is on. He added that police has been taking stern steps against the illegal arms and accordingly carrying strict search operation in the entire district.
