Guwahati (Assam), May 10: The Assam BJP legislative body on Sunday unanimously retained Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma as Chief Minister for the consecutive term.
Dr Sarma was named as the BJP legislative party leader at a meeting in Guwahati in presence of central observer and Union minister JP Nadda who was assisted by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
Soon after the meeting, Nadda formally announced Sarma’s name and said the legislators had unanimously reposed faith in his leadership.
The BJP’s alliance partners — Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front also extended their support to Sarma continuing as the Chief Minister for a second term.
