Guwahati (Assam), May 8 : The state government has after almost 13 hours have confirmed the death of the second Covid -19 patient in Guwahati .
Addressing media here today , Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Deepika Nath, a 16-year-old girl from Lokhra area of the capital city , was found positive for COVID-19 after her death on Thursday.
According to the Sarma, on April 27, the girl complained of a leg pain and fever, and was taken to ESI Hospital in Beltola area for treatment.Subsequently , she along with her younger sister shifted to her grandmothers quater , at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), hoping to get better treatment.
Yesterday , she complained of leg pain and in the evening she started vomiting after which she died. After getting to know about her symptoms, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) directed BBCI to conduct COVID-19 test, in which the girl was found positive, the health minister said .
This morning the BBCI staff quarters has been declared as a containment zone. All her contacts are being traced in order to carry out Covid -19 test .
In a tweet this morning , Dr Sarma said ,” I also met Doctors & staff at Dr D Borooah Cancer Institute to understand thier concerns. A support staff has tested #COVID19 + here. Assured them that Government was committed to do their best for hospital staff. Also lauded Herculean efforts by Doctors in the state.
