Guwahati (Assam), July 8 : After surge of fresh cases of Covid -19 in state , Assam on Wednesday saw 6 Covid 19 deaths taking the total number of deaths in the state to 21 .
According to official sources , a 19 -year old Covid -19 patient Monika Bhumji died this evening at the ICU of Jorhat Medical College after she was referred from Sivasagar .
Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said that she severe anemia and sepsis and despite all efforts by the attending doctors she could not be saved .
Earlier in the day , a total of 5 critically ill Covid patients died in the state today.
While four patients died at the ICU of Guwahati Medical College Hospital , one passed away in Tezpur Medical College hospital .
All the patients were undergoing treatment at Covid ICU and succumbed to their critical infections. All of them were on invasive ventilation ,had severe pneumonia ,urosepsis and septic shock .
