Agartala, July 20: Tripura Director General of Police Anurag Dhankar was found unconscious today and later declared dead, officials said.
Police sources said the 1994-batch IPS officer was found in an unresponsive state at and was rushed to Govind Ballabh Pant (G.B. Pant) Hospital in Agartala where he was declared brought dead.
Officials said the circumstances are under investigation, and suicide is suspected, though a post-mortem and formal inquiry will determine the cause of death.
Dhankar, who took charge as Tripura DGP in May 2025, had served in the state for nearly 16 years in various capacities. He previously led the CBI probe into the Punjab National Bank scam and had headed the SIT on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
The state government and Tripura Police are yet to issue an official statement. Senior officers have reached the spot, and the area has been cordoned off.
