New Delhi, May 8: India’s Ministry of Defence announced today, May 8, 2025, that Pakistan’s attempt to escalate tensions was negated by India’s proportionate response. During a press briefing on Operation Sindoor, India had emphasized its commitment to a “focused, measured, and non-escalatory” approach.
On the night of May 7-8, 2025, Pakistan attempted to engage multiple military targets in Northern and Western India using drones and missiles. These attempts were neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems. The debris from the attacks is being recovered from various locations.
In response to Pakistan’s provocation, the Indian Armed Forces targeted Air Defence Radars and systems at multiple locations in Pakistan. India’s response was characterized as being “in the same domain with same intensity as Pakistan”.
Pakistan’s unprovoked firing across the Line of Control resulted in 16 innocent lives lost, including three women and five children, in areas such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors in Jammu and Kashmir. India responded proportionately to bring the mortar and artillery fire to a halt.
The international community is taking note of the situation, with the US Consulate General in Lahore advising its citizens to take shelter and consider leaving Pakistan. Diplomatic efforts are underway to de-escalate tensions between India and Pakistan.
