Shillong ( Meghalaya), March 13 : The Meghalaya government honored five outstanding artisans with the State Award for Handicraft Artisans of the Year 2024-25, recognizing their contributions to preserving and promoting indigenous crafts. The awardees, Phras Syngkli, Gilford Pde, Mamsikha N. Sangma, Ensila D. Shira, and Wanstep Thangkhiew, received ₹50,000 cash, a trophy, and a certificate.
Director of Commerce & Industries F. Sutnga praised the awardees, saying the awards preserve Meghalaya’s indigenous craft traditions. The department will provide financial assistance, including seed money for work sheds and training for newer artisans. An Innovation & Research Centre will also support artisans with new designs and technology.
