Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan26: In a spectacular display of patriotism and cultural richness, Meghalaya celebrated its 77th Republic Day with grandeur and fervor at Polo Grounds, here. Governor C H Vijayashankar unfurled the Tricolor, saluting the valor and dedication of the state’s finest forces and institutions.
The ceremony honored excellence, with prestigious awards conferred upon luminaries: Dr. Kynpham Sing Nongkynrih (U Tirot Sing Award for Arts and Literature), Father Benoy Joseph (Pa Togan N Sangma Award for Social Services), and Miss Riiohlang Dhar (U Kiang Nangbah Award for Sports & Games). Padma Shri awardee Hally War, the mastermind behind Sohra’s iconic living root bridges, was felicitated for his tireless efforts in preserving environmental heritage and community bonds.
The event showcased the state’s vibrant spirit through captivating tableau presentations, precision march past, and enthralling cultural performances. Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar distributed prizes to winners, as the crowd reveled in the symphony of patriotism and celebration.
