Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 16: In a landmark move, the State Cabinet has approved a provision allowing private candidates to register for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Examination, offering a lifeline to thousands of school dropouts and students who couldn’t clear the exam. This bold step is set to rewrite the futures of over 8.33 lakh students who dropped out of school in the past decade and more than 2 lakh who failed to clear the SSLC despite multiple attempts.
The policy, hailed as a beacon of hope, enables eligible candidates, including professional sportspersons and artists, to register through affiliated schools designated as SSLC exam centers. The Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBOSE) will oversee the process, ensuring adequate safeguards to prevent misuse and premature dropouts.
This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to inclusive and compassionate education, recognizing diverse learning pathways and providing second chances to those who missed out on formal education due to circumstances beyond their control. As the state takes this significant stride, the spotlight shines on the transformative power of education, empowering individuals and shaping brighter futures.
