New Delhi, May 7: In a significant military operation, India launched airstrikes targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation, codenamed “Operation Sindoor,” was carried out in response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which killed 26 people.
According to sources, Indian forces targeted nine terrorist sites, including Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters in Bahawalpur, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) base in Muridke, and Hizbul Mujahideen sites in Kotli and Sialkot. The strikes were carried out using precision-guided missiles and loitering munitions.
The operation was executed from within Indian territory, showcasing the country’s advanced military capabilities. The Indian government has stated that the strikes were a fitting response to terrorism and emphasized the need for zero tolerance towards the threat.
The international community has reacted cautiously, with the US Secretary of State and the United Nations Secretary-General calling for maximum military restraint from both India and Pakistan. Pakistan has condemned the strikes, terming them an “act of war” and vowing a forceful response.
The airstrikes have also impacted aviation, with several Indian airports and international carriers affected due to airspace restrictions. The situation remains tense, and further developments are awaited.
