Shillong (Meghalaya), Oct 30: The Meghalaya Tribal Teachers’ Association (MeTTA-NEHU) has expressed grave concerns over the irregularities and inconsistencies in the functioning of the Registrar and Deputy Registrars recently appointed at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
The Association highlighted the officers’ lack of knowledge regarding rules, regulations, and administrative procedures, evident in their official correspondences. This has led to questionable decisions and appointments.
The key concerns of the association are unqualified appointments, bypassing experienced candidates. Inexperienced Deputy Registrar, Amit Gupta, with no university administration background, ignoring qualified state government employees who applied for the posts and lack of transparency in the appointment process.
MeTTA-NEHU demanded a thorough investigation into these appointments and urged the authorities to address the concerns to restore the university’s credibility.
“The current state of affairs at NEHU is alarming, and we cannot remain silent,” said a MeTTA-NEHU spokesperson. “We urge the authorities to take immediate action to rectify these irregularities and ensure fairness and transparency in the appointment process.”
The association has called for Immediate removal of incompetent officers, transparent and merit-based appointments and Investigation into the appointment process.
The future of NEHU’s students and faculty hangs in the balance. Will the authorities take heed of MeTTA-NEHU’s concerns and restore the university’s integrity?
