Shillong (Meghalaya), June 9: Both the BJP and Congress in Meghalaya have congratulated the state police for successfully cracking the Raja Raghuvanshi murder case. The case saw Sonam Raghuvanshi, the wife of the deceased, being arrested along with three others for allegedly plotting Raja’s murder during their honeymoon in Meghalaya.
The BJP Meghalaya Pradesh praised SP Vivek Siyem and his team, as well as the SDRF, NDRF, and the Adventure Club team of Sohra, for their tireless efforts in solving the case. They commended the police force for withstanding immense pressure, particularly from a slander campaign launched by certain sections of the national media that portrayed Meghalaya as a “crime-prone” area.
The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee also lauded the police’s dedication, professionalism, and commitment to upholding the law. They acknowledged the role of investigators, community members, journalists, and whistleblowers in contributing to the successful investigation.
Both parties highlighted Meghalaya’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states in India, known for its warm hospitality and woman safety. The BJP requested that media houses that had spread negative narratives about the state acknowledge their mistakes and adopt a more responsible approach to reporting in the future.
