Shillong(Meghalaya), April 28 : The Meghalaya Government today took an all important decision to put in place , Shillong, Jowai and Tura in order to contain further spread of Corona-virus in the state.
Speaking to the media after the meeting with Deputy Commissioners chaired by Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K. Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong said that the containment measures will prohibit entry and exit of vehicular movements except those on essential services.
The Minister said the restriction of movements will commence from 5.0 a.m. of May 1 and will continue till the 5.0 a.m. of May 10 . He, however, said that there would be exception for emergency cases with the permission of the Deputy Commissioners.
Tynsong also informed that essential services will be allowed to operate, where people can purchase their essential goods within the containment area, while the non-essential services will not be allowed to operate. The Minister said stern action will be taken as per provision of the law for violation of the Containment Measures. In this connection, he said all educational institutions will remain closed during this period and the on- going examinations would continue as per schedule .
He also informed that sporting activities will not be allowed to take place and all religious and political gatherings will prohibited . However, he added that marriages and funerals will be allowed with due permission of the Deputy Commissions by maintaining strict observance of Covid-19 protocols.
