Shillong (Meghalaya) , June 10 : Some doctors , nurses and other para -medical staff were directly exposed to a pregnant Covid -19 patient here on Tuesday night when the attending staff of NEIGRIHMS treated a Covid positive patient without any protective gear .
According to sources, the lady Covid patient was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and was under quarantine after she and her husband returned to Shillong from Delhi in the month of May .
As per Covid protocol every patent to the hospital has to pass through the Covid entrance which was followed by her but she was allowed the emergency ward , gynecology ward and the labour room reportedly by the Covid -19 nodal officer .
It may be noted that the emergency ward,the gynecological ward and the labour room are not Covid -19 zones and the attending doctors , nurses and other para -medical staff treated her without any protective gear thereby exposing themselves directly to the Covid patient .
Meanwhile , the state Health Minister A L Hek has directed all the people who came in contact with the pregnant Covid patient in her locality to urgently get in touch with the government .
State Chief Minister , Conrad Sangma tweeted this morning , “One high Risk contact of a positive patient has tested positive for COVID19 in Shillong. Person is under medical supervision.”
