Khliehriat(Meghalaya) ,June 27: In an act of heroism, a 14-year-old girl saved her three young cousins from a blazing inferno on Friday at Jalaphet Brisutnga under East Jaiñtia Hills district.
Lini Dkhar rushed into the blazing house of her aunty which caught fire due to an electrical fault to rescue her three young cousins – Diangmon Dkhar (6) who is specially-abled Youris Dkhar (5) and Hame Dkhar (2) who were alone in the house when it caught fire.
The incident happened Friday at around 1:45 pm, reducing the house to ashes and it was only through Lini’s bravery that a greater tragedy was averted.
The flames were only doused about an hour later after the arrival of other residents of the village who were providently assisted by a heavy downpour.
However they could do little to save the house that belonged to Pura Dkhar, which was completely destroyed along with the contents therein including cash amounting to Rs. 30,000, three sacks of rice, clothing and all other items in the house.
