Shillong (Meghalaya), July 10: A Division Bench of the Meghalaya High Court, comprising Chief Justice I.P. Mukerji and Justice W. Diengdoh, has directed the petitioner in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) case to file a further affidavit with concrete evidence to substantiate claims of irregularities in the operation of weighbridges across the State.
The court’s direction comes after the government filed a report denying any irregularities in the weighment of goods vehicles. However, the petitioner’s advocate, Dr. Agarwal, disputed this claim, alleging that the government’s assertion was not true.
The court has given the petitioner until August 1 to file the affidavit, which will be crucial in determining the outcome of the case. The PIL will be listed for further hearing on August 5.
This development highlights the court’s commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in the operation of weighbridges in Meghalaya.
