Shillong(Meghalaya), Nov19: In a significant development that is set to shake up the political landscape of Garo Hills, former South Tura MLA John Leslee K. Sangma has rejoined the Indian National Congress. Sangma’s return to the party comes after a period of intense reflection and dialogue with community elders, supporters, and civil society voices.
Sangma, a respected public representative and advocate for the rights of the Garo people, expressed his concerns over the current state of affairs in Garo Hills. “The youth are facing a bleak future, with unemployment, disillusionment, and shrinking opportunities defining the current landscape,” he stated.
The MPCC welcomed Sangma’s return, with President Vincent H. Pala saying, “His credibility, experience, and deep connect with the people will be instrumental in reviving democratic politics in the region.” Pala also criticized the BJP-NPP alliance, saying their politics of division and neglect have pushed Garo Hills into despair.
Sangma’s rejoining is seen as a boost to the Congress party’s efforts to revive its presence in the Garo Hills. His experience and grassroots connect are expected to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s strategy in the region.
