Shillong ( Meghalaya), June 18 : Incessant rainfall continues to create havoc in the state with eight persons from the state losing their lives due to rain-induced landslide.
In West Khasi Hills , 2 sisters of a family died due to a landslide on Saturday.
The sisters were dug out of the mud and rushed to Civil Hospital where they were declared brought dead.
The victims have been identified as Cafinia Nongsiej (15), a class X student of St Peters’ and Maya Nongsiej (10).
According to information available, due to landslide mud entered the rooms of the house where the two were sleeping.
Due to landslide, West Khasi Hills police have asked the people to avoid using the road from Nongdien to Maiawban and District Council towards St Joseph’s hospital in view of the floods and heavy rainfall.

According to official sources, one person identified as Shine Lyngdoh fell down on June 1 night at a drain at NH-6 while crossing veterinary office during heavy rain. Later the body was fished out from a stream near Session’s Court in Nongpoh.
On Thursday , five persons were killed and another went missing after their vehicle plunged into a gorge on the way to Thiedding village during torrential rain in Mawsynram .The dead were identified as Defender Boney (28-male) from Thieddieng, Edwis Sohtun (38-female) from Thieddieng, Chamberlain Sohtun (52- (male) from Thieddieng Nongthymmai, Atiar B.Lynser (40-male) from Thieddieng and one baby girl.The body of Gracefully Jyrwieh (30-female), wife of Defender Boney from Thieddieng, is missing.
The boundary wall of All Saints Diocesan Higher Secondary School in Shillong also collapsed due to heavy rainfall on Thursday.
