Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 23 : Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh inaugurated the “Conclave on Dialogue for Holistic Development of Livestock Sectors in the North-East Region” here in Shillong, on Thursday, Jan 23. The conclave aimed to promote holistic development of the livestock sector in North East India, encouraging collaboration among key stakeholders.
Several significant projects were launched during the conclave, including:
– 15 Entrepreneurship Development Projects (EDPs) under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), worth ₹10.93 crore
– Four Fodder Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) facilitated by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB)
– Regional Semen Production Laboratory and Goat Semen Bank in Khanapara, backed by an investment of ₹337.29 lakh
– Intensive Cattle Development Project in Khliehtyrshi, Meghalaya, with an investment of ₹31.86 lakhs
– Multiplier Pig Farm in Kyrdemkulai, Ri Bhoi District, at a cost of ₹10.23 crore.
The conclave also featured the launch of a “Poultry Song” in the Khasi language and the release of the Meghalaya Animal Administrative Report 2023-2024. Additionally, a Development and Conservation Program for Siri Cattle in Sikkim was launched, supported by an investment of ₹215.6 lakh.
The event highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships, cluster-based approaches, and technological interventions to boost the livestock sector in the North-East Region. The Minister emphasized the need to strengthen the sector, increase milk procurement capacity, and onboard new farmers into the cooperative network.
