Shillong (Meghalaya), Jan 18 : Foiling the attempts of smugglers, troops of 193 Bn BSF ,Meghalaya seized cosmetics worth Rs . 47 lakh on Tuesday from the bordering area of East Khasi Hills which were being smuggled to Bangladesh.
The consignment was confiscated when smugglers were trying to cross the consignment as head loads to Bangladesh through a riverine patch from the area of village Barmanbari, East Khasi hills.
BSF on observing them, challenged to them to stop but they fled from the spot leaving behind the huge quantity of cosmetics .
The seized items were handed over to Customs for further investigation and legal action.
The Indian cosmetics items are in high demand in Bangladesh which leads to illegal flow of these items into Bangladesh.
