Shillong, Oct 7: The Garo Hills will have to wait longer for council polls.
The State Cabinet on Wednesday cleared another six-month extension for the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), pushing elections further.
The decision was necessitated by the ongoing delimitation exercise and electoral roll revision, which are still underway.
The current extended term of the GHADC ends on October 17.
Official sources said the government needs more time to complete the groundwork before announcing the poll schedule and expressed hope that elections will be held within the fresh six-month window.
