Shillong, Oct 1: Big relief for voters under the ongoing Special Intensive Revision 2026 — no more office rounds.
The Election Commission of India has announced doorstep facilitation for electors served notices for being unmapped or for logical discrepancies. Booth Level Officers will now go to their homes, collect documents and upload them on ECINet for the ERO to decide. No need to visit the ERO or AERO office, no physical hearing unless absolutely necessary and that too preferably online. If hearing is needed, any adult family member can appear on behalf of the voter.
Help desks and special camps are also being set up by the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills for those in old age homes, economically weaker sections and others needing assistance.
The final publication of the electoral roll in Meghalaya has been pushed to October 26.
The exercise has picked up speed in East Khasi Hills. As on October 1, out of 1,59,424 notices generated from 5,62,160 electors in the draft roll, 1,15,545 cases — 72.48 percent — have been completed. The notices include 82,766 no mapping cases, 76,565 mapping discrepancy cases and 93 cases of shifted or double entries. Only 219 electors have been found ineligible so far, while 5,17,957 have been parked for final publication.
The district has also received 13,616 forms, including 6,967 Form 6, 812 Form 7, 1,135 Form 8 for shifting and 4,702 Form 8 for correction, with 365 Booth Level Agents appointed by political parties across constituencies.
Appealing for cooperation, District Election Officer W Abhilash Baranwal said BLOs should be extended full support when they reach out, and voters should verify their names once the final roll is out — no eligible elector should be left behind.
