Shillong, Sep 29: The Meghalaya Football Association today announced that Shillong has been selected as a venue for the first round of the Indian Women’s League Second Division 2026-27.
Group C matches will be played at the SSA Stadium at Polo next month, with inaugural Meghalaya Women’s State League champions Jakrem FC set to make their national debut.
No club from Meghalaya has ever featured in the IWL or IWL-2. Royal Wahingdoh had been invited for the qualifiers of the first edition in 2016-17 but failed to progress after losing all four matches.
Jakrem became eligible following the institution of the dedicated women’s state league by the MFA last year. The Jaintia Hills club will be joined by AIFF TDS Academy, Kemp FC and Mumbai Knights FC in Group C, with the four group winners and two best second-placed teams advancing to the final round in November.
The MFA said it will utilise the IWL-2 as a preparatory platform for the state’s participation in the 39th National Games to be hosted by Meghalaya next year.
