Itanagar, Sep 29 : A soldier died and 4 others sustained serious injury when militants ambushed an Assam Rifles petrol party along the India-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
The incident of attack on patrol party took place in the Nampong Nallah area in Changlang district in the morning where the martyr was identified as Jangkhokai Kuki from Manipur.
According to police, the patrolling party of the 21 Assam Rifles came under attack by suspected militants in Changlang district, which shares an unfenced border with Myanmar. The militants opened fire on the patrol team, killing the NCO on the spot and injuring four others.
The injured personnel were shifted to a hospital for medical treatment.
Additional security forces were rushed to the area, and a massive operation was launched to nab the fleeing militants.
Unconfirmed reports blamed it all on the NSCN-K-YA militants for the attack.
Assam Rifles Director General Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera condemned the incident and condoled the death of the havildar.
