Shillong, Sept 15: Meghalaya’s Special Intensive Revision 2026 has picked up remarkable pace with over 82 percent of hearings already completed and thousands of new claims pouring in ahead of the final deadline.
Chief Electoral Officer Meghalaya today held a virtual review with Deputy Commissioners, District Election Officers, EROs, AEROs and representatives of all recognised political parties to take stock of the massive exercise. Out of 21.69 lakh electors in the draft roll, notices were generated for 6.51 lakh cases, and 6.46 lakh of them have already been delivered, leaving just over 5,000 pending. Hearings have been completed for 5.36 lakh electors, which is 82.31 percent of the total notices issued, while only 542 electors have been found ineligible so far after detailed scrutiny and due process.
The CEO made it clear that receiving a notice does not mean automatic deletion. It is an opportunity for electors to clarify discrepancies and submit supporting documents, and no name from the draft roll will be deleted without following prescribed procedure and giving a fair hearing. Electors who missed their scheduled hearing will be given another chance.
The revision has also triggered a wave of fresh applications, with 17,061 claims and objections received so far after publication of the draft roll, including 9,343 applications for inclusion through Form 6, 1,076 objections through Form 7, and over 6,600 applications for shifting and correction through Form 8. With the extended window for filing claims closing on September 18, the CEO has appealed to all eligible citizens whose names are missing to file Form 6 along with the declaration and documents.
Of the total notices, 2.22 lakh relate to no mapping cases and 4.28 lakh to mapping discrepancies, all of which are being carefully scrutinised. Political parties are actively participating through 1,814 Booth Level Agents appointed across the state, including 736 from NPP, 393 from BJP, 320 from VPP, 186 from INC, 121 from UDP and 58 from AITC, who are helping electors file claims and respond to notices. The CEO reiterated that the objective of SIR 2026 is to prepare an accurate, inclusive and transparent electoral roll, with disposal of claims and hearings continuing till October 17 and the final roll scheduled for publication on October 21, ensuring that no eligible citizen is left out and no ineligible name remains.
