Resubelpara, July 20 : Tragedy struck North Garo Hills after the body of an unidentified newborn girl was found floating in the Rongdal River near Rangsa village under Kharkutta Police Station.
According to police, local villagers spotted the infant at around 9:00 A.M. on July 15, 2026, and immediately alerted authorities. A police team rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the river.
The newborn was taken to the District Medical and Health Officer for post-mortem examination. Following the procedure, the body was kept at the mortuary of Mendipathar Community Health Centre pending identification.
Despite inquiries in nearby villages, the identity of the infant and her parents remains unknown.
A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, North Garo Hills, Mendipathar, as *Case No. 10/2026* under Sections 91 and 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The Superintendent of Police has appealed to the public to come forward with any information. Anyone with details can contact Kharkutta Police Station at 9863395143 or 8974499912.
