Shillong (Meghalaya), May 27: The Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, Dr. Prem Kumar, is on a four-day official study tour to examine legislative functioning and parliamentary activities in the state. The visit blends policy with place, combining detailed observations of House procedures in Shillong and Sohra with tours of Meghalaya’s sites of historical and cultural significance.
Dr. Kumar arrived in Shillong on Tuesday, May 26, and will remain in the state until May 29. He is accompanied by his spouse, Mrs. Prabhawati Devi, along with officials and security personnel from the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
“Such exchanges are vital for strengthening the democratic fabric of our country,” said a senior official of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat. “When Speakers and legislators learn from each other’s procedures and innovations, it benefits governance in every state. We are honoured to share Meghalaya’s parliamentary practices with Dr. Prem Kumar and his team.”
The tour is part of a parliamentary exchange designed to promote best practices in governance. It is expected to deepen inter-legislative cooperation and create new channels for states to share what works on the floor of the House.
