Shillong (Meghalaya), April 14: Sohra police have recovered a .303 rifle stolen from the MCCL factory and arrested three youths after a swift investigation that began with a missing-weapon report filed by Home Guards on Saturday, April 11, 2026.
According to officials, Home Guards personnel on duty at the MCCL factory discovered the rifle missing from the storeroom and lodged an FIR at Sohra PS. A case was registered under Sohra PS Case No. 10/2026, citing sections 305(e), 324(3), and 331(3) of the BNS.
During interrogation this evening, two suspects identified as Shaiborlang Jyrwa, 21, of Marai Thymmai, Sohra, and Sawbor Sooting, 20, of Mawkisyiem, Sohra admitted to removing the weapon from the Administrative Building of MCCL. Acting on their disclosure, police searched the residence of Smti Alpha Mary Jyrwa Nongseij, Shaiborlang’s grandmother at Mawkisyiem, and recovered the .303 rifle bearing number 3709740. The recovery was made in the presence of independent witnesses, and the weapon was formally seized.
A third accused, Teilang Sohkhia, 19, also of Marai Thymmai, Sohra, was picked up later in connection with the case. All three have been arrested and will be produced before the court tomorrow as investigation continues into the breach of security at the MCCL premises.
