Shillong ( Meghalaya), March 20 : The East Khasi Hills Police have issued a stern warning to parents, advising them against letting children under 18 ride battery-operated bikes or vehicles on public roads. A recent video of a child riding solo on a national highway has prompted this advisory, highlighting the risks of accidents and serious injuries.
According to Section 4 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, allowing children to ride independently on public roads is a punishable offense. Parents found guilty may face up to 3 years imprisonment and a fine of ₹25,000 under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act (amended 2019).
The police urge parents to ensure children ride only under adult supervision in safe environments like parks or residential compounds.
