Shillong (Meghalaya), March 19: State’s Education Minister has thrown his weight behind the state’s ornamental fish farming industry, highlighting its potential to boost the economy and create new livelihood opportunities.
The Minister was speaking at a workshop on Advanced Aqua scaping and Aquarium Management, organized by ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, and St. Anthony’s College.
With Meghalaya’s rich biodiversity and unique fish species, the Minister urged stakeholders to adopt sustainable practices and tap into government schemes.
He released a monograph, “Ornamental Fishes of Meghalaya,” showcasing the state’s aquatic wealth. The event aimed to raise awareness and promote sustainable aquaculture practices, encouraging youth and farmers to explore this lucrative sector.
