Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 20 : In a poignant display of respect, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma paid a heartfelt visit to the residence of the late Shillong MP Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon on Friday, February 20, 2026.
Syngkon, a dedicated leader and Voice of the People Party (VPP) stalwart, passed away suddenly while playing football on Thursday evening, leaving the state in shock.
At the Assembly, CM Sangma emotionally recalled meeting Syngkon in Delhi just 15 days prior, discussing plans for Meghalaya’s development. “He was very keen… The last message was, ‘Good evening, Sir, please see the note for the institute for your kind perusal,'” Sangma said, remembering Syngkon’s simplicity and charisma.
The CM also announced a government holiday in Shillong parliamentary constituency on Saturday to allow people to attend Syngkon’s funeral.
