Shillong (Meghalaya), Feb 19: In a shocking turn of events, Ricky Andrew J. Syngkon, the 54-year-old Member of Parliament from Shillong, has succumbed to a cardiac arrest while playing football. The Voice of the People Party (VPP) leader was rushed to Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital, where he was declared dead at around 8:42 PM.
Syngkon’s untimely demise has sent shockwaves across the nation, with politicians, friends, and well-wishers paying tribute to the young leader. “He was a passionate advocate for the people of Meghalaya and a strong voice in Parliament,” said VPP President Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and other senior officials visited the hospital to express their condolences. Syngkon’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he defeated Vincent H Pala by a massive margin of 3.7 lakh votes, was a testament to his popularity.
