Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 1: The Sohra Tourism Circuit project, worth ₹233 crore, aims to transform Sohra into a model for sustainable and community-led tourism. Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma laid the foundation stone for the Integrated Development of Sohra Tourism Circuit. The project will strengthen tourism infrastructure, enhance visitor experience, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities in Sohra.
Scindia emphasized that the Sohra Circuit will ensure the first smile a tourist sees in Meghalaya becomes the first income earned by a local family. Skill development programs are underway to train local youth in hospitality, safety management, and eco-tourism practices.
The project includes development of major attractions like Nohkalikai Falls, Mawsmai Eco Park, and Shella Riverside. These sites will be developed as world-class tourist attractions under the PM-DevINE Scheme. The initiative is expected to boost local livelihoods, promote community-led tourism, and showcase Meghalaya’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.
