The unknown sender, claiming allegiance to the ‘Ri-Bhoi gang’, threatened to plant multiple bombs across the city. Swift action by the Special Operation Team (SOT) of East Khasi Hills led to the identification and apprehension of 37-year-old Edward Maiong from his temporary residence in Lower New Colony Laitumkhrah.
The phone used to send the ominous message was recovered and seized, and investigations suggest that Maiong may have links to a militant outfit, given the incriminating evidence against him.
The SOT’s prompt response and collaboration with neighboring district police demonstrate their commitment to maintaining public safety and order in the region.
