Shillong ( Meghalaya), Aug 29: TMC MLA and former Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma has been recognized as Leader of Opposition by Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma today.
Ronnie V. Lyngdoh, a Member of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, has been recognized by the Speaker as the Opposition Chief Whip in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly with effect from the forenoon of August 28.
The official notification confirming these appointments was issued by Dr Andrew Simons, Commissioner and Secretary of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.
Earlier, TMC leader Dr. Mukul M Sangma formally made a submission to speaker for the LoP post and Ronnie V Lyngdoh as the Opposition Chief Whip as it had the support of lone Congress MLA Ronnie V Lyngdoh.
In 2023 Congress had 5 MLAs but its tally was reduced to just 1 recently after three of its MLAs joined the ruling NPP and Congress MLA Saleng Sangma got elected as an MP from Tura Lok Sabha seat.
Meanwhile, TMC Supremo, Abhishek Banerjee congratulated Dr. Sangma on being appointed the Leader of the Opposition in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly,
