Shillong ( Meghalaya), Feb 8 : The five-member Congress Meghalaya Legislature Party today extended support to the NPP led coalition Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.
Speaking to the media, Ampareen Lyngdoh said that the Five Congress legislators decided to expend support to the MDA Government to protect them and also for the sake of bringing development to their assembly constituencies.
When asked whether the party high command is aware of their support to the MDA government, Ampareen Lyngdoh declined to respond and said “the five Congress Legislators are left with no option but to support the Government, as they were left out by other Congress legislators”. “We took this decision in the best interest of the people”, she also added that during the last four years, the opposition Congress was handicapped to attend to numerous issues concerning the state including the border issue between Meghalaya and Assam because it is not in the government.
Ampareen Lyngdoh also referred to the kind of politics that the state has been witnessing and would leave it to the interpretation of the media. “I don’t want to say anything at this juncture. but the five-member Legislature Party decided to support the NPP led MDA”, Ampareen Lyngdoh added.
Few months back, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Dr. Mukul M.Sangma and 11 other Congress MLAs of 17 party legislators deserted the Congress and joined the All India Trinamool Congress.
