Shillong (Meghalaya) , Jan 22 : The state on Saturday recorded 406 new COVID-19 cases with the tally rising to 88,141 , a health department press statement said.
The death toll rose to 1,496 as one more person succumbed to the disease during the day, the press statement added .
Governor Satya Pal Malik and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma are among the new patients.
CM Conrad tested positive for COVID-19, a day after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Delhi .
The Meghalaya CM urged those who have come in contact with him to isolate themselves and get tested if necessary.
Of the fresh cases, 304 were reported from East Khasi Hills, 56 from West Garo Hills and 16 from Ri Bhoi. The remaining infections were detected in seven other districts.
At least 185 people recuperated from the disease during the day, taking the total number of recoveries to 84,643.
Meghalaya now has 2,002 active cases.
