Kokrajhar (Assam) ,Sept 6: Sensation prevails in Udalguri district and its adjoining areas of Bodoland Territorial Areas District(BTAD) after the brutal murder of an in service junior doctor on Saturday in Jorhat district of upper Assam.
The victim who hailed from Udalguri district was engaged in treating COVID-19 patients in Jorhat district.
The victim , Dr Rahul Basumatary(26) devoted his services during the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic in the upper Assam district.
On Saturday, Dr Basumatary was attacked by one Diganta Thanti and succumbed to his severe injuries .
A protest was organised against the incident in Udalguri on Sunday and the students body demanded strict punishment to the involved culprits.
The All Bodo Students Union(ABSU) has demanded quick action in the case .
In a press statement,ABSU general secretary Lawrence Islary, said that the All Bodo Students Union expresses deep shock and extends condolence to the bereaved family members . Dr Rahul who was under internship after completing his graduation in Homeopathic medicine from Dr. J.K. Saikia of Homeopathic Medical College, Jorhat.
He was brutally murdered at his rented room at the house of Hira prasad Nath, Chandan Nagar area in Jorhat .This gruesome murder is suspected to have been committed by a group of persons .
Meanwhile , ABSU has sent a letter to CM of Assam demanding quick justice for Rahul by constituting a Special Investigation Team and take up the case in the Fast Track Court for quick delivery of Justice.
They also demanded grant of compensation to the victims family .
He hailed from Udalguri district and was son of Mr. Nogen Basumatary & Mrs. Tirala
Basumatary.
UPPL president Pramod Boro has also condemned the murder of Dr Rahul Basumatary and demanded strict investigation into murder and punishment to the culprits.
