Kokrajhar(Assam),Mar 14: Protests broke out in Baksa district today with the announcement of the name of Raju Bharal as the official candidate of the ruling BPF for Dihira constituency in Baksa district. Soon after the announcement of his name activists and supporters from the party protested and staged a dharna for nominating Bharal as the official candidate from the constituency . Later , the disgruntled members attempted to set afire the Dihira block BPF office .
The incident coincided with the BPF supremo Hagrama Mohilary releasing the names of 13 candidate’s in Udalguri today which included Raju Bharal’s name.
Just after the announcement of candidates names , several party worker and supporters of the party came out openly an objected to Raju Bharal’s nomination from the Dihira constituency . Later they attempted to torch the BPF block office after vandalizing the party office and tearing the party flags.
They demanded immediate replacement of party candidate name with senior leader and Ex BTC MCLA Moonsingh Brahma instead of Raju Bharal.
Ruling Bodoland People’s Front(BPF) in the council today declared the third list of candidates to contest the forthcoming council elections which included four new faces from Dotma,Mathanguri,Salbari and Rowta constituency.
BPF president Hagrama Mohilary, announced the third list of candidates which include a female candidate from Mathanguri constituency in Baksa district.
With the announcement of 13 candidates name today the number of names cleared has gone upto to 31 so far .
The nominated candidates include Khagen Boro(Rowta),Ripen Daimary(Bhairabkunda),Raju Bharal(Dihira),Jaysingh Basumatary(Salbari),Aktara Ahmed(Mathanguri),Chandi Basumatary(Goibari),Prabhat Basumatary(Subhaijhar),James Basumatary(Nishima ),B Saoraigwra(Chirang),Paniram Brahma(Kajalgaon),Prakash Basumatary(Dotma) and Abdul Khalek Mondal(Shrirampur).
While announcing the names Mohilary said that the BPF is confident of having majority for the fourth consecutive term in a row as general citizens from all walks of are coming forward to extend their support .
Meanwhile, BPF party worker and leaders have welcomed the decision of the party high command for nominating Prakash Basumatary and Derhasat Basumatary to contest the upcoming council elections from Dotma and Salakati constituency, respectively. They were felicitated at the party office at Dotma after they were nominated today.
Basumatary said that the party’s focus would be to build an integrated society in the region and expressed to his confidence to win with a massive margin .
The revamped opposition ,United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL)l is expected to release its list of candidates on Sunday morning for all the 40 seats.The party would be including female candidate as well representatives from different communities in the list.
The ruling BJP in the state is also planning to announce candidate’s lists on Sunday and party has decided to put candidates in all 40 constituencies in four districts of the council.The saffron party on Saturday declared of going alone in the council elections and clarified that the alliance between BJP , BPF & AGP will be only in the state and centre only and they could contest alone a s a party in the council elections.
The Congress, AIUDF and CPI-M are also releasing candidate’s list on Sunday for the upcoming BTC general elections.
