Kokrajhar (Assam), Mar 16: In a major development, Union Home Minister Amit Shah today announced that the Central government will implement 100% of the conditions of the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) Peace Agreement within the next two years, ensuring lasting peace in the region.
Shah made this announcement during his historic address at the 57th annual conference of the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) in Kokrajhar, Assam. The conference, which concluded today, saw a massive turnout of over two lakh people from different districts of the state.
According to sources, Shah’s announcement has sent a wave of optimism among the people of the region, who have been waiting for the implementation of the peace accord.
The BTR Peace Agreement was signed in 2020 between the Centre, the Assam government, and the Bodo outfits. The agreement aims to bring lasting peace to the region, which has been affected by violence and insurgency for decades.
Shah’s announcement today is seen as a major step towards fulfilling the Centre’s commitment to the people of the region.
