Kokrajhar(Assam), April 6: Three accused persons have been convicted today in the Abhayakhuti rape and murder case of two minor girls in Kokrajhar district which had created sensation among the citizens in the region.
On Wednesday, the Special Court, Kokrajhar has announced the judgement against the three accused persons those were involved with Abhayakuti rape and murder case, Kokrajhar PS case No.440/2021 where three accused persons of 7 were convicted of rape and murder of two minor girls.
Since the incident occurred, the family members lodged an FIR with Kokrajhar police station, case registered Kokrajhar PS case No.440/2021, 120B/302/376A/376D/376DA IPC,Read With (R/W) Section 6 of POCSO Act, R/W Section 3(1)(W)/3(2)(5) of SC/ST prevention act.
Since bizarre incident, several organizations including students unions, social organizations had demanded high-level investigation and punishment to the rapists and murderers of two minor girls.
The convicted criminals have been identified as Parijul Rahman, Nasibul Ali Sheik and Mozammel Sheik of Abhayakhuti.
The court has fixed the punishment hearing and final judgement on April 8 into rape and murder case.
Public prosecutor, Manjit Ghose said that a judgement into the minor girls rape and murder case of Abhayakhuti in Kokrajhar district was taken up in a Special Court, Kokrajhar by special judge.
Notably,two minor girls of a family at Abhayakhuti were raped and later murder by perpetrators to hide the incident in Kokrajhar.
The bodies of the two girls were found hanging from a tree in a nearby jungle at Abhayakhuti.
The incident took place on June 11, 2021.
“The judgement has been pronounced within 9 months since the incident occurred after charge-sheet against the criminals was submitted on October 2021 “, Ghose said.
There were 7 accused persons who were arrested for their involvement in the incident, and later the charge-sheet was submitted against the three main involved culprits and four others were released.
Three convicted persons are now lodged in the District Jail at Kokrajhar .
Various organisations including All Rabha Women Council,All Rabha Students Union have hailed the judgement today and demanded strict punishment to the three convicted culprits
In the remote village of Abhayakhunti in Kokrajhar district of BTR, two sisters of the Rava community were killed on June 11, 2021 after being gang-raped by three accused gangsters.
In the aftermath of the incident, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appeared in person on June 13 and announced an immediate inquiry and formation of SIT.
