Shillong (Meghalaya), Nov 26: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma attended the Attestation Parade of the 6th Batch of Agniveers at the Assam Regimental Centre here on Wednesday, Nov 26. The ceremony marked the completion of 31 weeks of rigorous military training for 783 trainees, including 274 Agniveers and 509 Territorial Army recruits.
The Agniveer batch comprised recruits from diverse backgrounds, showcasing the region’s rich martial heritage. Chief Minister Sangma praised the Assam Regiment’s distinguished legacy, noting its bravery in fighting against the Japanese during World War II. He emphasized the responsibilities ahead for the newly attested soldiers, who will serve in extreme weather conditions and remote border areas, and urged them to uphold the Regiment’s motto “Asam Vikram” and adhere to the Army’s core values of duty, sacrifice, discipline, and patriotism.
The CM congratulated the families present and expressed confidence in the recruits’ readiness to face challenges. Selected parents were presented with the ‘Gaurav Padak’ in recognition of their contribution to national service. The ceremony concluded with a slow march, the Army Song, the Regimental Song, the National Anthem, and a group photograph with the passing-out batch.
